In fiscal year (FY) 2011, Central Texas Veteran Health Care System treated 85,678 Veteran unique patients and
treated 9,874 inpatients. Outpatient workload totaled 1,053,940 visits.
In collaboration with Fort Hood, the largest military base in the world, Central Texas VA Health Care System provides transitional medical
services and conducts PTSD and traumatic brain injury (TBI) research.

The Houston Texas Michael E. DeBakey Veteran Medical Center serves as the primary health
care provider for more than 130,000 veterans in southeast Texas, and their outpatient clinics provided services to over 1.2 million outpatient visits in fiscal year 2011.
Veterans from
around the country are referred to the MEDVAMC for specialized diagnostic care,
radiation therapy, surgery, and medical treatment including cardiovascular
surgery, gastrointestinal endoscopy, nuclear medicine, ophthalmology, and
treatment of spinal cord injury and diseases.
